WHO WE ARE
Society for Human development is a non-government, not-for-profit and nonsectarian, non-partisan organization working for social development of vulnerable and less developed people. SHD was established in 1984 by a group of young and energetic people who were highly motivated and committed for contributing their time, skills and energies for the development and empowerment of socially disadvantaged and vulnerable communities in Pakistan and addressing poverty issues and gender-based discriminations. The organization is registered under “The Societies Act 1860 of Government of Pakistan as on (1996). Registration number is “RP/5553/L/S/05/385.

Society for Human Development focus is on the socio-economically disadvantaged groups of women, youth and children. Keeping in view the overall socio-cultural fabric of the society and the overall power imbalance and discriminations that exist at all levels; the focus, amongst these groups, is again on most vulnerable and the marginalized ones. SHD also focuses on the inclusion of minorities and special groups such as widows and physically impaired and elderly people.

Welcome to the Society for Human Development (SHD).
At SHD, we believe that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, hope, and a better future. Our mission is to serve vulnerable and marginalized communities and help individuals and families become stronger, empowered, and self-reliant.
Our work encompasses education and literacy, child protection, women and girls’ empowerment, livelihood and skills development, health and humanitarian assistance, youth development, community development, and environmental awareness. We give special attention to disadvantaged families, particularly brick-kiln workers and marginalized communities trapped in generational hardship.
A core focus of our work is raising awareness among these communities about their fundamental human rights, helping them break free from the chains of bonded labor, and equipping their children with the gift of quality education. SHD is dedicated to liberating families from forced labor so they can stand on their own feet, earn a dignified living, and provide for their households independently. Our ultimate vision is to ensure that future generations are freed from modern-day slavery and provided with the tools to build a brighter, self-determined future.
Beyond advocacy and education, we have directly supported brick-kiln families through school supplies, livelihood assistance, and the construction of safe homes for families in need. Building homes is more than providing shelter—it is helping families live with greater security, dignity, and hope.
We believe lasting change happens when we work together with communities and partners. Through compassion, partnership, and practical action, we seek to bring meaningful and sustainable change to the lives of those we serve.
